Aloha Lions Ohana,
Wow this quarter is flying by! Today we started our Parent-Teacher Conferences and we are in full swing for our Spirit Week. Please remember, school gets out at 12:30 every day through next Tuesday. Just a few updates, reminders, and unfortunately a COVID notification. I will start with the notification. Today we learned of a student who was on quarantine with their family and while on quarantine contracted COVID. They were not on campus for a long period of time both before and after diagnosis so there was no risk to other students, but we do want to extend our support to the family and wish them a speedy recovery. On to the updates and reminders.
- Our spirit week is in full swing with tomorrow being Winner Winner Chicken Dinner Wednesday, wear sports team gear. Thursday is Think Pink Thursday, wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. On Friday it is costume day. Wear your costumes. It is also our Treat Street day where the students will be going to our harvest carnival-themed "house" to get some surprises and treats. Due to COVID, we will not have it as a "haunted house" this year so we can control the flow of students better. In addition, we will hold a costume contest Friday morning. 3 nominees from each class will be sent to the cafeteria to compete for first place in 3 categories; cutest, creative, and scary to win a bucket of goodies. Have them dress to impress!
- Tomorrow is our next Parent Workshop. Please join us at 8:00 am at meet.google.com/ovg-orky-
ysw to learn about Parent-Teacher Conferences, our upcoming WASC visit, and how to help your children during this hard time with a few easy arts and crafts. - Friday is our next Panda Express fundraiser. Students took home the flyer this week. You can simply show the flyer or you can also go online and use the online ordering code is 329036 at pandaexpress.com to order ahead and still support the kids!
- The school awards assembly will not be an in-person event open to the public, unfortunately. What we will be doing is pulling students down who do receive awards and filming it for families to view online at kwes.org a couple of days after the event next week Friday. I will send out another message with that information as soon as it is done.
- Our school has been selected as a COVID vaccination site for keiki ages 5-12. The exact dates and details have not been worked out, but, we do anticipate that this will happen in November or early December.
- After-school programs are beginning to return. This week we saw the start of our Ballet class and had to expand to include three Jazz dancing classes to hold everyone! We will be starting our cheerleading crew up again soon, as well as our after-school first language classes on Chuukese and Tagalog. In addition, we hope to have a Volleyball class to begin soon and possibly baseball and basketball! If you know anyone who would like to coach a sport or help coach, please send them to the office to volunteer!
We anticipate a lot more information to come out about our upcoming WASC visit, holiday schedule, and other events coming out soon. Please be on the lookout for those messages. School is starting to feel like school again with our keki back and programs ramping up. We are thriving together because, We are the Lions. We are the Future!
Aloha,
Mr. Larkin
