Aloha Lions Ohana,
Welcome back LIONS! We are stoked to have everyone back for another amazing quarter of school here at Kalihi Waena. I hope that you all had a relaxing and exciting break. Today we have a number of announcements to open our quarter with.
1. This week is our safety week here at school. We will be holding a number of safety drills; earthquake, fire, mass evacuation, lockdown, and shelter-in-place. Most of our drills will be modified slightly this year due to COVID, including the mass evacuation that we will hold on Wednesday. We will not be going to our normal evacuation site as it is under construction, nor our alternate site, however, we will be evacuating to the lower parking lot grassy area, so please do not park there on Wednesday morning from 8:15-9:15 am.
2. Tomorrow you will be getting the application for this year's flu shot clinic. One significant change this year is that those who have HMSA/Quest cannot participate due to a rule change somewhere. People who have HMSA/Quest must go to their pediatrician to get their shots. Please turn in your forms by Friday as the clinic will be done the following Wednesday.
3. Our Parent workshop which was scheduled for this Wednesday is being moved to next week Wednesday. The link will be sent out later.
4. We will be hosting another Principal's Coffee Hour this Thursday at 8:00 am. You can join us at meet.google.com/zoj-hzet-ept. Our topic will be our upcoming WASC visit and the report that we completed for it as well as our usual open question and answer session.
5. This Wednesday is Unity Day state-wide. We encourage everyone to wear orange that day as a signal that they are against bullying, racism, and hate and strive to include everyone in their lives.
6. Parent-Teacher Conferences begin next week Tuesday, October 26th, and run through November 2nd. For this time all classes dismiss at 12:30 pm daily. Please make sure to pick up your students on time. We will be sending out confirmation letters this Wednesday or earlier and would like them returned by Friday, please.
7. Our next Panda Express fundraiser is next Friday, October 29th all day. Flyers will be going out soon. Please consider helping our PTA by going to eat there if you can!
8. Today we had the best attendance we have had for the entire year. Lets' keep it up!
That is it for now. Thank you all for your continued support. We are so happy to have our Lions back in the classroom, learning. We do it together because We are the Lions. We are the Future!
