Kalihi Waena SY 2020 Q3 Update #4 (1/29/21)

Aloha Lions Ohana,

I hope this message finds you all well.  As we end this week of Parent-Teacher Conferences, I have a few announcements and reminders for you all.

  • PC Day: There is no school tomorrow, Friday, January 29th.
  • Grades 4 and 5: Grades 4 and 5 Group A starts school in person Monday, February 1st, and Group B starts school in person Tuesday, February 2nd.  Students start school at 8:00 AM and will be dismissed to return home at lunch (11:30 AM for grade 4, 11:40 AM for grade 5) after picking up a lunch at the cafeteria for the week of February 1st - 5th.  They will log back into their classes after lunch. Students on non-in-person days will still be online for class.
  • PTA Fundraiser: Our spring PTA fundraiser is here.  This year our PTA has put in thousands of dollars into our school to provide things for our students like; the Lion's masks, our new website, food for those in need, planner books, shirts, school supplies, prizes for our challenges, and more!  Please support this fundraiser by helping sell Regal Bakery items.  You can see our flyer at http://bit.ly/KWEspringpta
  • English Language Learners Testing: Parents of English Language Learners.  We are in the middle of testing all of our students.  Mrs. Alip-Taniguchi is coordinating these tests with you.  Please make sure to have your child come in for testing to ensure proper supports for your children can continue.
  • Lead Testing: The school will be undergoing testing of our drinking water as part of a statewide testing program.  Please go to http://bit.ly/KWEwatertest for information on this program and http://bit.ly/kwewaterposter for the flyer.
  • COVID Test: The State of Hawaii Department of Health is completing free COVID-19 testing at Lanakila Health Center on JAN 30 from 9am - 2pm.
  • School Dismissal Time:  Now that Parent-Teacher Conferences are complete, we are returning to our normal bell schedule, 1:30 PM Wednesday, 2:15 PM all other days.  Please remember to pick up your child on time unless they walk home. A+ still has available space if you are in need of after school care.
  • Teacher Institute Day: Please note that on February 8th there is no school due to teacher institute day.

We are thrilled that we are getting more and more kids back on campus.  Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this transition phase.  We know it is difficult.  On behalf of our staff, we want to say thank you very much.

Keep strong Lions.  Remember, we are the Lions.  We are the Future!

Aloha,

Mr. Larkin
