Kalihi Waena SY 2020 Q3 Update #2 (1/15/21)

Aloha Lions,

We hope this message finds you all well and in good health. Today we have a few unique announcements for all of you, especially our 5th-grade families.

  • 5th-grade families: Last night the school messenger system may have accidentally sent a message to all of our 5th-grade families.  This message was from another school and was NOT intended for our school.  Please disregard that message.  Our 4th and 5th-grade classes will begin returning to campus as previously planned on February 1st for group A and February 2nd for group B.
  • 2nd and 3rd grade:  Beginning January 19th (next Tuesday) our 2nd and 3rd-grade students will begin to return to school with group A starting first. Group B will start on Wednesday, January 20th. Please remember that they will be dismissed from campus at lunch (11:00 AM for 2nd grade, 11:10 AM for 3rd grade) and will return online for the remainder of the school day at 12:00 PM.  Beginning Monday, January 25th they will remain on campus throughout the school day.
  • Parent-Teacher Conference: Starting January 21st through January 28th, we will be having our Parent-Teacher Conferences.  It will be on-line only. The school will dismiss every day during this time at 12:30 PM.
  • Palama Settlement: Palama Settlement is offering after school tutoring classes as well as online music-making classes for free.  Please email [email protected] for more information.
  • A/B schedule off days: Children who are on an A/B schedule are still expected to be online for classes on the days they are not on campus for class.  All students should be learning with their teachers starting at 8:00 AM every day, either online or in person.
  • Check our school website, kwes.org, regularly for information and updates.

Lastly, I know many of you are concerned about the current numbers of COVID-19 cases.  We are closely monitoring the situation and, if warranted may slow down, pause, or reverse our return to in-person learning. Currently, we still meet the criteria for elementary schools to be in blended learning and, as long as the community continues to practice safety measures, should continue to be so.  We will keep you posted for any changes as soon as those decisions are made.  For now, we will continue with our original plan.   Keep strong Lions.  Remember, We are the Lions.  We are the Future!

Aloha,

Mr. Larkin
