Quarter 2 Update #13

Aloha Lions Ohana,

Wow, 2020 has been a crazy year, but it is almost pau, as is the second quarter.  We have just a few announcements for everyone today as we come to the end of the quarter.

  • #snowmanchallenge: Wow are our keiki creative, innovative, and talented.  Our #snowmanchallenge had a wonderful turnout.  Our staff had a hard time narrowing it down to three winners, as you can see in the video of the entries at bit.ly/kwesnowwin.  Our winners are:
    1. Most Resourceful - Breanalin Lim
    2. Most Creative - Kaison Miranda-Tomas
    3. Cutest - Aria Parras

The 3 category winners may pick up their gift cards at the office on Friday, 12/18 by 3pm. The other entries may pick up their "Mahalo" goody bag at the office on Friday, 12/18 by 3pm.

  • Schedule switch: Tomorrow school will dismiss at 2:15 pm and we will dismiss at 1:30 pm on Friday due to the end of the semester.
  • Winter Best: We hope everyone can join us, online or in-person, dressed up in their winter best outfit, maybe a nice shirt and tie, a beautiful dress, a funny "ugly sweater", or a big red jacket with a red floppy hat and red pants!
  • A/B schedule for S2: Due to the announcement of furloughs, our A/B schedule for semester 2 was delayed.  We will put it up on our website sometime during the school day tomorrow.  Please see kwes.org for more information after 12:00 pm tomorrow.
  • Tardy Students: Parents, if you bring or send your child to school late, i.e. they won't make it to class by 8:00 am, please make sure to take/send them to the office for a tardy pass.
  • Sick Students: We have recently received some more guidance from the Department of Health concerning students who are ill and displaying symptoms of COVID-19.  The guidelines are now that any student with even one symptom of COVID-19 is to be sent home immediately and is not to return to school in-person until they have gotten a doctors note, a negative COVID-19 test, OR been out of school for at least 10 days 24 hours after the symptoms have improved.  Students may still attend online.  These rules apply even if the student was at home when he/she falls ill. The symptoms list is as follows:
    • Fever of 100 degrees or higher
    • Chills
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath
    • Fatigue
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion
    • Muscle or body ache
    • Diarrhea

We know that this may be a struggle for some, but the safety of our keiki is our number one goal and it takes all of us being focused on everyone staying healthy in order for us to stay in person as much as possible. Together we can get through this.  Keep strong Lions.  Remember, We are the Lions.  We are the Future.

Aloha,

Mr. Larkin
